In 2005, the Air Force and Hickam Community Housing (HCH) entered into a privatization agreement that includes replacement and renovation of more than 600 residential units in Earhart Village. To date, more than 250 new homes have been completed in Phase I-2 and more than 200 units have undergone extensive renovation.
New homes are designed to increase the energy efficiency of a home and feature solar hot water heaters, Energy Star-rated appliances, contemporary floor plans and amenities that will help improve the quality of life for Airmen and their Families. When compared to the housing units they replaced, the square footage of each family unit has increased by over 30 percent.
In 2009, construction in Earhart Village will continue with the development of a new JNCO community called Earhart Village Park. Once construction is completed there will be a total of 702 new homes for JNCO and SNCO Families in Earhart Village. By 2012, Earhart Village will be among the most modern neighborhoods on Hickam Air Force Base offering a beautiful home and community that will proudly serve our Military Families.
